Kim Jonah
Kim Jonah grew up with a Weimaraner named Fritz, a pet mole, and several cows and chickens on her neighbor's farm. At age 13, she became the youngest C-rated rider in the history of the Glastonbury CT Pony Club.
Kim danced and taught for 20 years, ending up in Hartford in 1983 to help found WORKS Contemporary Dance. She continues to dance and teach today at Chapeau Rouge Dance project with other "mature" dancers.
As a dancer, Kim became knowledgeable about the anatomy and bio-mechanics of muscles, movement and how to maintain a healthy body. She graduated from The Hartford Conservatory in 1984 with a degree in Dance Pedagogy. She learned the value of regular massage during this time. It helped her body heal from strenuous repetitive movements and occasional falls and injuries. At 59, she still attends a professional dance class with members of Full Force Dance Theater at the HARTT School.
Kim was introduced to energy work in 2003 and was certified in Consegrity, an energy modality developed by Dr. Mary Lynch and Deborah Harrison. She decided to try the work on animals, and began working at Tails-U-Win in Manchester, Connecticut doing Consegrity. She also attended Bancroft School of Massage Therapy’s 7 month Small Animal Massage Program in 2004. She has since attended Upledger seminars in CranioSacral I and II as well as CranioSacral therapy for canines, Therapeutic Touch with Holly Major, a handling seminar with George Allston, behavior seminars with Suzanne Clothier and Suzanne Sternberg, and Canine Freestyle with Diane Kowalski.
Kim has taught Canine Massage workshops and seminars at Connecticut School of Massage Therapy in Newington, CT, New Haven Central Veterinary Hospital, Tails-U-Win, Our Companions Animal Sanctuary, Breed clubs and Adult Education.
From 2004 to 2006 she worked at Frontier Medicine in Granby, CT with Allys Maybank, VMD. She has worked at AKC and CPE Agility Trials since 2005. She maintains a private practice in Glastonbury, CT along with her two cats, Ozzie and Jolie and Kitty GaGa, the feral cat who adopted her.
Kim is delighted to be a part of Wizard of Paws. She admires and respects Dr. Saunders for her work and compassion for all beings. |
